Day 3 - Canterbury

The next day we travelled to Canterbury to see the cathedral.

The cathedral was huge!...as most cathedrals are. The architecture was amazing! It boggles my mind to think how long and tedious building them would be like. Also, the people building thee cathedrals weren't really paid. They built it because it was a house of God. That was it. These people were very religious. They were so elaborate in detail and symbolism. There are so any different parts that are symbolic. The windows, ceiling, doorways.....almost everything had something symbolic about it. The crypt was way cool. It had this hushed reverent felling to it.
Here are some pictures of the cathedral.

First glimpse of the Canterbury cathedral as we entered the city.

Day 2 - Blenheim Palace

One thing I liked about the palace was the fact that the Duke of Marlborough STILL lives there. I also really liked the library...*sigh* It was beautiful. :D
The eleventh Duke of Marlborough currently lives there. Emma, grandma and I went on the "special" tour. We got to go to the private rooms. I love seeing these really old paintings with pictures of grandchildren stuck in at the bottom. :D There was a magnificent water garden outside the cafe....beauty. :D

Blenheim Palace. I'm the one in the red, straight ahead slightly to the left. :D

A view of the water garden from the library. It was way better outside...and when the sun was out. I have some really good pictures of it..but sadly thy inaccessible.
SOME of the grounds. Again..I have really good pictures of them!!....I love you emma! :D

Day 1

I don't remember much of the plane ride. I was pretty sick. Not the best way to kick-off to a tour of england I can assure you.

When we reached england I was feeling a lot better. ( Thank you airbourne!! lol) I still wasn't totally healed but....I'll take it. My Aunt Amy, Uncle Kristian and my cousin Lucas came to pick is up. My Grandma had been at the airport for several hours. Once we had bags and rental car we started our journey....

THE CAR RIDE.

It may sound cheesy, but I was seriously just freaking out at every little thing. But for vanities sake I didn't freak out aloud. lol I freaked out in silence. It was a dream come true. All the years I had learned about this small island of vast history....and then I'm here. I don't know why I had such a fascination with england. I'm not sure where it started. But all I know is that I have been fascinated with england since about age 9.

The car ride to Oxford was only supposed to take about 45 minutes to an hour....but we were stuck in a pretty bad traffic jam. ( "McKenna! This is you first english traffic jam!!! haha
" ....that was my mom teasing me..lol) The scenery was magnificent! :D Beautiful green hills dotted with villages and trees.... *sigh*

When we got to Oxford, we went to Cowley ( that where my Aunt and Uncle live) to drop off our luggage and get situated. After we finished people were hungry so I was appointed to pic a place to eat. I suggested The eagle and Child. I suggested it because of its history, not its food. The food wasn't' bad...it just wasn't very good......yeah lol The history of it is........C.S Lewis, J.R.R Tolkien and a few others drank whilst they sat telling one another about ideas they had or the books they were writing. There is a little plaque for them in the pub....in fact there are about 3.

As a first meal in the U.K I had the classic Fish and Chips. In fact almost everyone got fish and chips. The only people that didn't was Grandma, Mom and Amy. Mom got a pork pie because Sister Nilson told her that she had to try it. (Sister Nilson LOVES them. Why? I can't say...It is cold ground up pork wrapped in this gelatinous mass (spelling?) in pastry...in other words...*gag*) Sorry to all those who love pork pies.....but.....I do NOT recommend them. :D

After dinner, we walked around city centre for about an hour. It was cool to just walk through the city. We went and saw the Radcliffe Camera, St. Mary's, and Christ's Church college. They were all really cool. :D

I will get pictures of the first day on here shortly!

England!!

I am REALLY sorry for not posting!! I honestly haven't had the time. But No more!! lol :D

I'm in oxford now. I've done my england traveling with Mom, Emmalyn, and James the past two or so weeks. It was amazing. :D We did 10 cities in 15 days! By the end of our tour of england, we were all pretty exhausted. Poor Dylanie and Lucas had had ENOUGH.
A travel journal is on the way....but I'm sad report that pictures from day 2-15 ( or whatever it is) are stuck on my memory card which is having serious issues. Mi dispiaci!! (I'm sorry in Italian)

Some advice / thoughts on life.....

"When life is throwing all the negatives of the world at you, defeat them with a smile and a hearty laugh." :D

"When you go new places, pause for a moment and take it in by concentrating on smells, sounds, objects, buildings and the feeling of the area around you. It will make it more memorable."
